1971 mustang coupe with a mostly stock 302 and stock 3 speed? my cousin just got his on the road, and i know he's going to make me bring him to the strip. anyway, its a stock 302, it has headers and full dual exhaust, and i think a 3.27 rear end, non posi. jsut how fast should he expect his car to be?

He doesnt know how to launch, and he shifts it maually(but no shift kit). what were the standard gears for a 302 car? its definately not 4.11's or 3.73's.

 

3.00 was a pretty standard gear for the 302. My first 68 with a 302 mostly stock would do mid 16's.Stock 302 had 210 horse, not much to work with so the expectation would be pretty low.

If he doesn't know how to launch, then he isn't a driver. I would guess somewhere in the high 17's to low 18's with him driving.

 

+1 on the 16-17ish range i had a 72 with 72k miles on it wasnt the fastest car ever but it was decent i installed a stall converter really woke things up. i believe the stock gear ratio was 2.80s
