Default which engine would you use?

im trying to decide about the engine i want to go in my 66 coupe. its a factory 289 car 3 speed manual, i definetly want a 5 speed tranny. theres a company not far from where i live that will build an extremely nice 347 for a little more than 4000 http://www.tandlengines.com/347_stroker.html(thats the website) im trying to decide between buying that building my 289 up, if i build the 289 i would do a complete rebuild with heads cam intake and all those goodies

on average how much would the 289 build cost? what would yall do if it were your car

i thought about that, BUT ive heard that the 289's have a shorter piston skirt so they arent as good to build into a 347 as a 302

get the 347 and save the 289, if you ever sell the car it would be more desireble if the 289 went with it as many of the purist have said in so many other threads. But look at it this way if beat the hell out of the 347 and some how destroy it they car hasn't lost any value because you still have the 289 rebuit or not. and if that did happen you could be back on the road in a day or two. But at the same time everyone here knows I'm bias since I work for T and L. But if you decide to rebuild the 289 PM me and we can see if I can save you some money on the machine work since thats my job now just don't tell the boss.

I am with Mustanglover66, you could rebuild the 289 cheaper, but the 347 is bigger, + you get a warantee.

as for stroking the 289with the shorter cylinders when the pistons reach the bottom of the stroke and start back up they will rock a little side ways before they start back up. We had a simalir problem with certain casting number chevy blocks being made into 408s. We found the problem when a customer brang his car back with a knocking noise in his engine after we tore it down and whent thur it thats when we found the problem. Needless to say we do not use that casting number block for those engines any more. and hve taken steps to insure nothing like that is sent to customers.

Why? Short cylinders and inadequate heads ... [sm=badidea.gif]

Build a 302 bored over with a stroker kit and turn it into a 347. It will be like having the power and torque of a 350 and still be nearly as light as a 289. Can't beat that in my book!

Edit: A 351 Cleveland?! Is it even possible to fit that behemoth in the engine compartment?
