Default muffler recommendation - 1970 Mach 1

I have a 1970 Mach 1, 351 Cleveland, that was restored by the previous owner as a Sunday street ride. Car looks GREAT and runs nice but the sound is lacking. Car has the correct oval tips, if that matters.

I live in a typical residential area and don’t want to rattle any windows but I would like it to have some audible personality.

Any suggestions?

standard failsafe are flowmaster 40's. You might even want to consider the super 40's, as I've heard they have a little less interior resonance.

I concur with the others. Flowmasters all the way. You won't be disappointed! I have them on mine...if that matters. BTW I have the correct exhaust tips as well.

Nice lookin Mach 1. I purchased mine in November and just taking it out of winter storage now.

I went over to the Flowmaster web site and they have sound clips for their different mufflers. I'm thinking the 50 Delta may work for me. I'll try and find a local shop and see if I can hear it up close.

The 50's are okay as well...in your case since you don't want something that will **** off the neighbors, they might be a better choice in the long run. 50's are pretty subdued at idle and cruise speeds, but they have a nice tone under load/WOT. The thing you have to be careful of is the quieter you go, the less resonance you get, so the exhaust tone starts to just be more of an air pop at the tailpipes which can sound kinda like a put-put tug boat. But with 50's it will still be a good sounding exhaust system.

Mufflers?[sm=boosign.gif]
You don need no stinkin' mufflers!
Straight pipes.
Or else electric cutouts running around the 40's when you want to be taken seriously.
