locked transmission
The transmission on my 65 fastback is locked. I cannot get it into any gear including reverse. The stick moves freely in neutral. The clutch seems ok, the linkage rods arent stuck together. Its a 4 speed. Any ideas?

The linkage may be mis-adjusted, or some of the little plastic bushings that go into the ends of the linkage may be missing. You might see if you can move the shifting arms directly. If somthing is not adjested right the transmissinn will prevent the arms from moving, as a precaution against being put into two gears at one time.
Start with the shift levers, paying close attention to the reverse lever. You might try to disconnecet the linkage from the levers and moving them back and forth a little. Do not force them to move!
If this does not work, you might have a broken shifter fork, not really a big deal though.

t-10 or toploader...i would think it might be your shifter mechanism(the box that the shifter links connect into at the base of the shifter handle) maybe you have something wedged in there or something just freak happened there, if it were linkages i would think that you could shift it freely but it wouldnt engage gear all the way and usually it doesnt happen to all of em at once but yeah i would check them anyways but im not a tranny expert so who know...
Yeah, when the linkages bind, or get alittle out of whack, it locks everything down. My toploader does it every now and then, but usually a jingle will free it. My 67 ford f100 did it alot, but i fianlly got it adjusted right..... i think.
heres what i did to mine i removed the linkage from the ends on the tranny it goes into levers and doesnt have adjustment like the shifter side i moved each lever by hand put it all bak together now it work frin maybe it will work for you?
