331 stroker kit(s)
the only thing a stroker does is give you torque faster but it also makes your torque curve and power curveflatterwhich is what most people dont understand, i wish i knew how to take screenshots or i would use my desktop dyno to show you, stroking on a street 400hp 302brings your power band down from around 6500 to 5500 but gives you more torque on the low end, if you want a high winding small block with good torque the way around what ford did is have your rotating assembly balanced, i would get a forged crank and get it shotpeened they are like 400 bucks for a 302, your rods should be ok and forged 10:1 compression pistons are pretty affordable 500-600 bucks, but take a stock k code cam shaft .498 duration and like .310 duration if you raise the lift to .515 and lower the duration to about .470 than that would be affect your power band the same way as a stroker kit would on the low end but give you that high end that a stroker takes away, where if you do that to your camshaft with a stroker it would just gob down your top end even more to about 5000 rpms and give you 10 more tourqe, but its possible to get 400 reliable horsepower, just how well your engine is built...I have built several 350-400hp 302 for customers and yet to have a failure so it is possible...

I am planning out my future i 6 to 302 swap. I hope to do the swap within the next year. Within the next 2 years, I plan on rebuilding/stroking the engine. I was thinking about a 347, then I read, and even heard about, problems with it. I've read that the 331 is much more reliable, but just as capable.
Main question: Where can I find a good/proven 331 stroker kit? Preferably one with a forged crank and H-beam connectiing rods. Try to have the price stay under $1600, but link to any found. The only kits that seemed noteworthy were teh Scat ones found on Summit and Jegs.
I searched Summit, Jegs, and Google. I found a few sites that seemed a little sketchy so I want something proven.
My goal: Obtain at least 400 RELIABLE rwhp. I would like to do so with natural aspiration, but if I need forced induction that is an option. Either way I am willing to go with more horsepower (Keep in mind:reliable) A link to a 302-specific, carb specific supercharger would be dandy ...
This car ('66 Coupe) will be a daily driver. I am extremely mechanically inclined, but do not wish to rebuild the engine every year.
Is it possibly to get at least 400 rwhp and still get 50-75,000 miles out of the engine?
I *will* have driveline durability taken care of, so no need to focus on that...

Chevys have had the piston pin in the oil ring since jesus walked the earth, never hear any nonsense about those.

1600 is the budget for the rotating assembly alone. The price does not include heads, cam, intake, carb, etc.
I will be using a block from a Foxbody, so it will be less durable?
(I will be pulling the engine/clutch/tranny out as one unit)
400 hp is the minimum, while 450 will be my mark. Can I get 450 safely from a 302 block, N/A?

again.......
thats like a sore d*ck right there........ you can't beat it
fullauto (a MF member) has great prices on stroker kits and is totally cool. right now he has a few 347 kits for 799.99 with free shipping. probe forged pistons with cast steel cranks and i beam rods - which is plenty for what your shooting for. (cast steel is alot stronger than stock nodular iron).

I love the idea of a 302 that will pull big revs, but thats just not as practical for a daily driver as a heap of torque from a larger displacement engine.
eastennmotors, why do you say a stroker will rob the top end? my 408 (nearly finished) is cammed for up to 7500rpm

Look at the other guys post of his granaded 400 hp 302. If you want that just build that much hp from a stock 302 motor.
it sure was fun until it went boom LOL
talked to some people and was told my 2MA crank was considered a "lightweight" and that a 2M was "heavier" and maybe wouldnt have left in the situation im currently in.
anyone have input on this?
