Hood Latch
Does any know of any conversions done to a hood latch? I don't like the idea that anyone can pop open my hood at any time. I never liked those other ones where you have to drill a hole on ur hood either. I wonder if there's a way to rig up a modern one where you pop the hood open from the inside of the car. Any suggestions?
The early '70 ford trucks had the exact same latch assembly but with a pull cable into the cab. If you pick one up at the junk yard look around and pull the remote cable from a passanger car (they have a longer cable than the trucks) rather than the truck's. I have a '70 fastback and it worked great.
or get a set of mr gaskets locking hood pins they use the same barrel style lock as the soda vending machines which is hard to pick. if you get the cable hood latch make sure you run the cable in the engine bay not in the fender if in the fender it can be cut and opened easy. good luck let us know what you do
i don't see that many old trucks at the junkyard I go to but, i haven't been there for at least a year.
but hey Cruzzar do you think you can show me a pic of how u got it to work on ur mustang?

I am not sure I know how to get the picture onto this reply. I have a digital camera and will see if I can work it out. I will tell you that you only have to get the bottom latch mechanism form the truck. The truck's latch that attaches to the hood is exactly the same as the mustang's except that it has a cable to operate it. The safty latch lever is just a little shorter than the mustang and you have to reach in further to release it after you have unlatche it from inside the car. If in doubt about its looks, just unbolt the two bolts on you mustang latch (the latch mechanism next to the radiator and take is with you to the junk yard. Be sure to have them mark your latch when you go in so they don't charge your for it when you try to leave. I have a pick-a-part close to me and I think the latch and cable only cost about $12.00. I also picked up a mid 70's electric trunk latch from a LTD that is an almost directreplacement forthe mustang's trunk release mechanis. Again, you only need the lower mechanism, the latch that attaches to the trunk is the same for the LTD and the mustang. You still use the key to manually open the trunk or you can push the button that usually mounts in the glove box and open it electrically.
You forget the obvious source, J C Whitney, p/n 129635 $42.99. A six foot cable with locks. It is supposed todisable the starter too. Humm, with all that, I wonder if it can stop someone really determined to get your car? I prefer S and ...
