Default HELP 67 289 engine issue

I have a 67 c4 auto with a 289. I had issues with the car back fireing and studdering. I replaced the carb andbut thecar stillstudders at high speed trying to get into gear. Any ideas?

Could be a plethora of things.
Check the timing-plugs, points, wires, cap
fuel-lines, filter
heads-valves could be burned, stuck

Im almost certain its the points. The car goes from first to second very strong and then makes the hesitation miss-fires and goes into third. My order is correct but maybe my start point is not. I have a Mallory Distributer which I did change the cap to. My wires are new (MSD) and the spark plugs are also new. Take a look at my start point. Any ideas would be great.

I've had two cars over the years cut out under high load or high rpm situations, and both times it was the ignition coil.

Fresh Gas, and new fuel filter. The funny thing is the car worked fine 5 days ago. The only thing I canged was the carb once I found rusty pieces on it and it backfired on the highway

Backfiring is an ignition issue, not fuel. Time the engine and double check all the wires. Check your coil and if you have points, set them to 0.017

Ok crazy. I found a tangled spark plug wire last night before I closed up the engine last night. This morning I took the car out and It had no problems all the way to the gas station (almost a mile.) I filled up the tank with 7 gallons on 91 and now the car has never run this good EVER.(not to mention it has a bran new carb)My question is was it the wire? Or was it the car not having enough gas?Im in sunny California so its not cold, and I just installed a new 800 cold crank batt. This is my first build, so if my questions seem weak im a rookie.

Also I usually put in the cheap 87 because its my whifes car[:@]will 91 make a differenc since its only a 289? It felt like it did....
