Default Oil Pressure

How high should the oil pressure register on a 67? The needle is between the L and the 1/2 way point. Is that enough pressure.

Generally, no. Mine runs at about the 3/4 mark. You might consider testing the gauge and seeing if it will run all the way to the High side or not. If not, then the gauge is bad. What does your dipstick show?

The dipstick shows full. How do you test the guage. It does not move that position at idle or WOT

get a aftermarket gage and install it to see what your ture presure is the stock gages are not the best to go by. you can use the aftermarket gage on a temp. bases just attach the gage to the under side of the dash with one of the dash screws.

The stock guages are not really known for their accuracy.

A quick check can be done by temporarily hooking up a mechanical guage.

I have done this by using a grease hose (for a grease gun).

Remove the stock oil pressure sender, and with a couple of fittings you can hook up the grease hose where the sender goes, and hook a mech guage to the other end.

There is no guage in the picture, but every one I have tried screws right onto the grease hose.

Thank you for your help. I will try the mechanical guage. I just recently had a 68 coupe. I knew the motor was going to need a rebuild soon. I sold it to get the vert, wife told me I could not have two. On the way to give it to the guy I sold it to the engine blew. It did not have good Oil pressure I think the mains were shot. So when I got this one the low pressure scard me. I was able to work out a deal with the buyer though he is getting a 68 with a fresh rebuild and we are splitting the cost.
