How Safe
so my powersteering pressure line bursted about 6 days ago so i disabled my pump by removing the belt until i could get it fixed but how safe is that and if it werent for my worn out from suspension i think i would like manual steering i was wondering if anyone know where i can get an adapter for cheap cause i might just keep it manual
u should b fine, its gonna be a little...different to drive so u might wanna find a empty parking lot and just try it out but a lot of ppl actually just take the whole pump out cuz they like manual steering better....was actually thinking about it myself and getting a whole wapping couple of extra horses from it. not sure where to pick up an adapter tho
My advice is that if you truly want the manual steering, replace your steering with the stock manual stuff and sell your power stuff on Ebay for probably $500+. IIRC, the power steering gearbox is the close ratio which makes it harder to turn than the wide ratio, non-GT manual steering.
FWIW, my '65 GT had the close ratio manual steering and it was a real bear. It was driveable, of course, but it did get a bit fatiguing at times.

I wouldn't convert your power steering equipped car to manual by just removing the belt. When working, your power steering moves the linkage by using a hydraulic ram. Without any pump pressure, you're now moving the linkage through a small ball ended stud which protrudes from the power steering sector. Crawl under and look at it, because it sure doesn't look safe to me. If that thing breaks off the sector, no steering. There are conversion kits for this in the catologs, Mustangs Plus I would imagine.
I once had huge headaches with my 67's power steering pressure hose breaking, and discovered what was wrong. The hose can be routed in such a way as to remove the strain placed on it as your car steers. I could snap a photo of it if anyone's interested.

Here's the best way I've found to route the pressure hose. It's the one with the ribbed plastic around it. Messy car. It's a driver, not a looker.

About all the Mustang parts suppliers sell a converter to replace the control valve at the end of the center link. The parts in the control valve were not designed to with stand the stress of steering without power assist. I think the part cost about $80.
