Default Tranny lines....

66 v8 (600 holley)with c4.On the cooler lines which one goes where on the tranny. And could this cause it to shift into 3rd only occasionally. Also,I only do around town driving and i went from 13mpg to 7.5 this could obviously be because of no 3rd gear right?Just trying to get any issues ironed out before i decide to take a loan from pops. Theres plenty of fluid and have adjusted bands however there are some good sized leaks from the shifter lever and adjusting screws.

Both the out and in for transmission lines are on the right side. The one in front is the outlet and normally goes to the right hand fitting on the radiator, the rear fitting is the inlet from the left side of the radiator, but it does not make a difference if they are backwards. There is a special right angle fitting on the rear (inlet). I got one from a local Mustang shop that the owner said was not machined correctly, it was not drilled all the way thru. He said it was not the only one that he had seen so check the flow, disconnect and look. However, cooling would not cause a loss of third gear. I recomend you go to a shop.

Your cooling lines have nothing to do with it not shifting. Check your fluid, then try adjusting the bands. There is an article on how to do that in the FAQ under transmissions.
