Default Cowl repair

I know this probably always comes up when newbies join but, who has repaired the underside of the cowl themselves, and how much of a pain in the a** was it? I saw some pics on CJPony Parts andI guess the only problem is making sure your windshield will still fit right when you are done?

As long as we are talking about cowls, how can I get pine needles out of there?

Please don't tell me with tweezers,,,,

Step one remove the fenders . Step two ummmm.... get some " needle" nose pliers and pull what you can reach through the hole above the hinge mount area. Step three use a hose or high pressure washer to blow the rest out . Repeat steps two and three as needed. While you have the fenders ofF , be sure and check the condition of your seam sealer and scrape off and re-apply as needed then prime or paint the area you sealed.Do both the left and right side of the car .This will also clean out the drain holes at both sides of the cowl and prevent buildup of sludge that will retain moisture and cause rust. Not quick & not easy , but once every 5 or 10 years and your good to go.

Force the needles towards the passenger side cowl vent with compressed air and reach up through the heater box with your hand. I have extracted pine needle that way before.

I now have a cowl vent cover. That's also how I found some rust before I had the car painted and cowl repaired.

When we got the car it had a cowl cover on it, and we left it on untill a couple of days ago when we started painting. The PO had garaged (parked the whole time) the car for 10 years prior, so those are some really old needles.

The cowl holds water (it does not leak inside), so I hope it is good for some time to come. I was looking through the slots, saw what looked to be a little light surface rust, and a few pine needles, I want those needles gone so they don't promote rust.
