hey fellas, was wondering how difficult it is to replace the core support in my 65. my stang was tapped in the front sometime in its past and its a little beat up. rest of the front looks straight tho. i mostly want to replace it for cosmetic looks.

 

Remove the front grill, grill frame, bumper, gravel pan, valance, headlight frames and buckets, fenders, battery, battery support, radiator, fan and clutch, VR, wiring, overflow, horns, hood latch & brace.

After that, it's pretty much a remove and replace task. Drill out the dozens of spot welds and replace(spot weld) backinthe new core support assembly. Make sureyou take measurements to get the front left and right aprons back in the same positions.

 

I had a frame shop do one of my cars because there was some buckling on the front frame rails under the car. They stretched the right side 1/2 inch forward and the left 3/4 inch to bring it back into shape. Check the frame rails and if they have some weird looking 'folds'. If so, get a pro to do it. If you want to do it yourself, do you have a MIG, TIG or wire welder? There are specifications in the service manual - a handy book to have - to go by.
