I need to insure my 65 C Code. What do you all recommend? What should I look for, and what should I avoid? I use it as a daily driver so I would need liability insurance as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Default RE: Insurance

I just switched my from a collector insurance policy to my regular Nationwide policy.

I liked the discounted pricing from the collector policy but it has to many restrictions. I could live with the locked garage, annual mileage limits (weekend cruiser) etc, but I took it to the beach over Easter weekend and found out about OTHER restrictions. I called to check on it NOT being garaged overnight while at the hotel and was told it would not be covered. I told the rep that I was at the beach for my personal RESTRICTED mileage cruising and was going to check out a carshow while we were there. The carshow changed things up a bit, she said it WOULD be covered since I was there to attend a show, but that if it were just a vacation trip it would not be. Also, I inquired about the once in awhile stop at the store or ballpark (son) and was told those were NO-NO's.

So its back to regular coverage which isnt as bad as I thought with the historic tags I have on her.

Make sure your are covered for the use you are planning!

I use 21st.com, for full coverage for about $74 for 6 months. it's good coverage and unfortunately I had to use it last year when I hit an deer comming back from an cruise in.

it took awhile to get an adjuster out, but they sent down an classic car expert and covered everything.over $2000 with parts and labor. I only had to pay my $100 deductible.

Did any of the insurance companies send out an appraiser, or did they just take your word on the value of the Mustang. I am using Gieco right now just for liability, they told me if I got collision, they would take the average price of that model year Mustang for any refunds. He said right now it is about $4,000.00. Gieco pretty much told me to find a different insurer. I am still looking, I am going to call AAA and 21st and see what they say.

From what I've read on many forums, a LOT of people don't realize all the limitations of their policies. It's as though the companies down play them when you're shopping, and then once you're with them you find out all sorts of things that were in the small print. I suggest anyone with classic insurance to READ YOUR POLICY or CALL YOUR COMPANY to make sure you understand all the limitations, because from what I've seen, very few people actually do.

In my case, my main reason for insuranceis to comply with state laws. I'm not really worried about it getting stolen or wrecked, and all my assets are already protected in the case of a law suite, due to occupational hazards. So I don't care if I have a claim denied by doing something I wasn't supposed to. That being said, I rarely ever bend the rules as they seem to fit what I need anyway.
