Hard starting when warm
How does it turn over when its hot ?
If it sounds normal, the starter is fine, it could be pulling high amps, but it is doing the job of turning the engine over, the problem is something else.
With that said, it can still be electrical
When wiring or electrical components like a coil or condenser get hot, the wiring has a higher resistance to the free flow of current.
But it this were the case, you should be having some performance problems when the engine gets hot while driving, like stalling, or just quiting without warning.
How long have you had this problem?
You can test for vapor lock with the help of a friend, get a squeez bottle and put some gas in it.
Remove the air cleaner and have someone turn the engine over, and squirt some gas down the carb...if it fires up, you have vapor lock. If it dosnt, you have either a distributor or ignition problem.

It dosen't turn over or very very little. Sometime it will barely go, then it will speed up and start.
When it's hot it still runs like a top. No stalling or quitting.
I have had this problem since I finally assembled all the motor and car. That why I bought a new alternator and battery when I first started the engine after it was rebuilt and put in the car.
It's been a long process but it's onmly been on the road for 2 weeks now.

Andy, I can damn near guarantee you that if you put a spacer under that carb your probvem will go away. The Phenolic spacers are a space age plastic/wood type of material that dissipate the heat much better than an aluminum spacer. Get one, put it on, then report back with the results.
But I think he said "It will not turn over when it is hot"
Listen to what he is saying. It is definitely not the coil. The carb is not overheating. If the starter wont turn it over...
come on guys, listen....

if you have jumper cables once it is hot and acting up using only onewire of the jumper cables attach one end to the ear of the starter and the other to the negitive terminal on your battery. and try to start it. i had the same problem as you. I put in a high torque starter it got a littlebetter but once i used the jumper cable ,justto troubleshoot, it cranked right over like a charm.then i ran a (4 ga) ground wire from the starter to the battery never had a problem since.
