More 9" questions...
I'm still looking for a place to pick up a 9" housing and axles. The guys at Currie just quoted me $1100 for housing, axles, and drum brake kit. That sounds kinda steep to me...
Jegs has Currie Heavy Duty Housing and performance Axle Kit for $964 for a 64-66 or 67-70....little better than $1100 anyways...

I'm looking at the same thing and you still need the diff for another grand!!!That's why I posted about this: Nobody gave me any feedback except to say go to a junkyard and get the 9 inch full housing and axle etc, but that's a crapshoot and probably very unlikely for me. What do you think of this guy's product below?:

think its legit? Sure saves alot of housing and axle upgrade hassle!!!

Watch Craigslist for a 9". I have both purchased and sold one on there. I picked up a 9" disc brake Granada for $400 and then purchased a new center section for $550. It is only 28 spline but that should be plenty for my setup. I spent a couple hundred more and replaced bearings, turned rotors and new pads. Good to go, now if I could only get the ebrake to work. Take a look at the current Hot Roddin magazine. They did an article on a Currie 9", limited slip, drum to drum, final cost from Currie = $2800.00Unless you're running some serious muscle, 500+hp, I can't see dropping that much money on a rear end. I just built my 8" 3:25 trac-loc, brand new ring/pin, and limited slip, with all the extraparts (seals, gaskets, etc), for $800, re-using my rear end housing.
BTW, I was quoted $1400 complete, for a 9" limited slip, but that's the unusual narrow 65-66, cut and rewelded. You might consider buying a junk 9" center at the bone yard, and have the rear axle tubes
re-welded to size. The 9" limited slip center section is about $600-700 if you shop wisely.

I'm not sure why you guys are so surprised at the cost of an axle assembly. It is quite common to drop between $4k-$5k for a rear axle and $5-$6k for a front axle for a Jeep. If you want to play you've got to pay either in money for a drop-in from Currie, et al, or in sweat equity to do it yourself.
I found a guy who has 31 spline axles and housings for $500, may have been for the earlier mustang, but he may have for wider body too.
Gothand, where are you coming up with these prices? You probly know more about jeeps/4x4s than me, but 5-6k even for a well modded d60 front diff with air locker an axles an blah blah blahseems pretty steep.
