Stink-be-gone
i think he means that smell from the exhaust that all old cars have and new ones dont and i think that it is due to all of the new emmisions stuff so a cat could possibly help it but i dont see a reason for it. personally i LOVE that smell because i associate it with old cars
Running rich my be part of the problem.
I guess most of you guys don't have wives with an accute sense of smell.
Am I to assume no one has put a catalytic coverter on their ride? I am very curious as to what - if anything - it would do besides a slight loss of power.

Catalytic converters were invented about 35 years after our cars were manufactured.. Why would you think you could get an answer about a catalytic converter on a Classic Mustang site?
You need to be in the 5.0 or the 4.6 section to discuss catalytic converters because we don't have them here on the classic section.

our car smells awesome...not bragging or anything, but over the winter we keep it in a heated garage with a tank of 110 octane fuel in it which over the months of sitting all of the interior obsorbs the smell of race fuel....its pretty nice when you hop in it
a catalytic converter would make a major difference in the smell. That is the main difference in the exhaust system of a classic mustang and a modern car that doesn't smell.
One of the main reason nobody puts them on classic stangs is that it will make a significant difference in hp.

Sorry Soaring:
I didn't realize any Mustangpartnot manufactured between1964and 1973 is an item that forevermore will be banished from discusssion on this board.
There goes half my ride!

Catalytic converters are supposed to convert the exhaust gases, carbon monoxide, into non-toxic gases, like carbon dioxide and water. They, in many cases, also produce minute quantities ofsulfuric acid and nitric acid. What gasoline you smell probably comes from the carburetor vents and the vented gas tank. It's just a fact of life. Hang a 'pine tree' next to the dice on the rear view mirror.
