Default Stink-be-gone

Let's face it. Even with a well-tuned classic Mustang... they smell.

I had a long talk with my shop. Some of the guys are so used to the fumes they are no longer sensitive to it. Others agree - classics Mustang smell (like gasoline).

Is there any way to elimate or cut down on theodor?

One of the guys suggested acatalytic converter. Would it work? Would it cut down ont the stink? How would it effect the exhaust sound?

I drive my 03 Mach and my 65 and I don't smell gas in either one. I quit smoking 9 months ago so my smeller is pretty good too. Make sure there are no holes in your firewall and no gas leaking anywhere such as on top of the intake or the trunk and that the gas cap has a new gasket on it.

I love the smell of old cars. That's one reason they are so fun to drive for a young kid like me.

1. Go to you nearest auto parts store, brouse in the anti-stink row and pick something. If it don't work try another.
2. Replace the carpet and seats, including new burlap and foam, front and back.
3. Check inside the door panels and see if some assembly line worker left his lunch bag.

What about the catalytic converter - any benefits? Or negatives?

How about a air freshner.... They are like 50 cents and last a couple weeks then you get a new one... There are a variety of scents. Right now I have country breeze in my stang. Stang doesnt smell like gas anymore.

Bounce dryer sheet under the seat. Works great on a hot day.

By the time the burned/unburned gas reaches a cat back it has already caused the stink if you have a leak in front of it. Now, are we talking exhaust gas leak, or are we talking real pure raw gas smell. That will help to narrow it down.

I have no idea on catalytic converter but I would imagine the shop guys whould know as well as any of us. My fastback has alot more of a gasoline/exhaust smell since I dropped the 289 in her. I am running an Edelbrock 600 now after not being able to get the 500 tuned lean enough. I noticed alot of gasoline smells when the 500 was blowing black, now it is toned down to what I would call an old car smell. I like it!

Park it in an unattached garage that is heated, well lite, and equiped with all the tools you need to fix these beauties. Also make sure you have a sleeping cart and bathroom facility(shower, toilet, and sink) because you will spend a majority of your time upgrading and maintaining these beauties!!!!! That is the truth!!!! Smell is no longer an issue.
