Default Monte Carlo bar dimensions

Does anyone know what the measurement between the shock towers of a '66 should be?
Vertically up from the lowest hole but at the apron edge measures 39.8 inches between the towers.
The MC bar I got from Mustangs Unlimited measures 40.6 inches at the point inside the flange angle.
I thought I read somewhere it's supposed to be 40 inches.
Everything seems fine, I just had it aligned to the drop specs with no problems or excessive shimming.

Who makes the nicest adjustable MC bar?[sm=smiley8.gif]

I am interested in making a mc bar. Can anyone give me a definate answer on the length? Does 1" square tubing with a piece of angle iron on each end sound good?

If memory serves, your distance is correct for 65-66 models. However, engine compartment width is approx 2 inches wider beginning in 67. So, think you have a 67-up bar.
Just completed an adjustable homemade monte Carlo, but recommend staying with store bought unless have fenders off.

James you brilliant man.... Can you get a picture(s?) of the mounts for that bar? Did you make it? How was it attatched?etc.... All can be answered with pictures.

I also saw the writeup on your export braces. Can anyone tell me if those are as effective as aftermarket heavy duty units? Or even, if they're ebtter than the stock braces. If they're better than stock I will try and make a set.

What's the point to making them adjustable? My guess is to put them in with ease, then rotate them to tighten (lengthen) them....is that right?
