If you have the 1970's unit it is a 4500-7500 rpm manifold. Had one on a 66 hi-po...didn't like it at all. Went back to the 1967 Cobra unit.

so it'll run like crap won't it? i'm pretty sure thatbesides that manifold and the carb that the rest of the motor is stock, we got it out of a fox body mustang and i'm guessing the guy who built it wasn't thinking too much.

For a street engine use either an Edelbrock Performer(not the RPM) or Weiand's Action Plus(they have 2 now, the new one is pn 8124 for SBF, bit more guts to it than the old Action Plus). Both of those are good for engines operating on the street up to about 6,000rpm. Higher rpm than that(definately not a stock engine) then you might wanna consider the Performer RPM, or the Weiand Stealth(or other equivalants). For a street car operating under 6k rpm, stay away from single planes like the Torker series, Victor Jr etc. What little top end horsepower you get(or possibly lose!) ain't worth the gobs of low and and midrange torque that you'll lose, and throttle response lossas well.

+1 for sticking with a dual plane, however im a fan of the performer RPM / RPM airgap myself.

i look at it like this. they come in at 1500 instead of idle, but 1500 isnt that far off idle and doesnt take but a fraction of a second to get from idle to 1500, meanwhile its making more power than the lower end units.

just my .02

RPM's are nice on a modded motor, but I wouldn't do one stock. A factory engine turns what, barely 5k rpm? If the engine works at that rpm it'd prolly make more power with a smaller manifold. But the RPM's are nice for nasty street machines that turn some revs. Depends on where you want power at too. I'm trying Weiand's new Action Plus(8124) on the engine I'm building now. They say idle-5,500(but the old ones say idle-6,000, so who knows?) It's supposed to be designed to be more compatible with stroker kits/new cams/new head designs etc. I guess I'll see how much better it works? They claim like almost 15hp/tq over Edelbrock's Performer(not the RPM). I guess I'll find out

if the action plus has 15hp over the performer than that sounds pertty good.... its the performer IMO that is a waste of money cause its virutually no better than the stock manifold

It's aluminum though, so at least there's a weight savings. I'm really curious what this new Weiand will do though, cuz looking at it, it doesn't look like the typical low rise dual plane, it's about the same size it seems as the RPM Air Gap I have, only slightly shorter(but not by much), and maybe a bit smaller plenum. If'n it don't work well I can always stick the RPM Air Gap on it.
