Default mini starter on a 67

has any one installed a mini starter on a 67 mustang with headers? i purchased a protorque starter for a 289, but no matter how i adjust it, it won't clear. solenoid up, i hit the block or headers before the holes align. solenoid down, i hit my steering or the header before the holes align.
i have gone through 2 solenoids on my original starter since my engine rebuild.

what mini starter will fit a 67 with headers?

It should clear just fine. What headers do you have?

I'm using a Summit mini-starter which is a rebadged Protorque and it fits just fine. I did have to clock it to get it to fit but it fits just fine.

Not to insult you, but just to make sure we are all clear, you are removing the two retaining bolts that hold the flange to the body and rotating it hole by hole until it'll fit, right? There has got to be 20 or 30 holes on that thing, one surely must fit.

i have hooker headers...they are not the large tube. i rotated the flange into every position possible. when i get the holes to line up and the starter to clear the block and the headers, the upper bolt hole is blocked by the solenoid.

sorry for stretching the page with that long link, but it seems like a hell of a deal and my lifetime warranty autozone starter is busted from the 302 grenading

Yeah, 65 bux is about what a starter costs at Autozone and you get the lifetime warranty. I have used that warranty twice now.
