Hello. The stock distributor will work just fine, since you have basically the stock configuration on the motor. If you go with something like an MSD set-up, a professional driver would probably be able to shave an impressive .02 seconds from his time at the track, but for regular people driving on the streets, there wouldn't be any difference, especially with the 2bbl still in the car.The net result ofupgrading the distributor would be to relieve you of some money and have a car that, for all practical purposes, runs the same as it did. You might want to consider just going with something like the pertronix point replacement. That save you having to tweek the points every so often. Hope that helps.

I have had very good luck with the Mallory Unilite. You can get it with mech. advance or Vac. advance.

My distributor is 42 years old and still ticking. I have the pertronix ignition, and it works great. So, as Veronica stated, the stock distributor will work just fine for you.

I had a MSD unit on my basicly stock 289. It never whimpered and worked great. It really won't add a whole lotta power, but it will be nice if you go toaperfomance setup a little further down the road. If you don't see yourself doing that, just get a Petronix or something without the stinkin points.

That would work and here is another option. This is the Mallory conversion for your distributor.

The pertronix is less than 70 bux. I don't know how much the mallory is. That could be the deciding factor.
