Well... that's what happens when your MSD ignition has never failed, but your carb has or a valve has gotten stuck...fear of recurrance.
Ignition failure results in the engine stops running, valve stuck can lead to more costly consequences...

As long as you don't check for spark right after you were messing with the carb you should be ok.

Just make sure you didn't spill any gas anywhere.

gas fire in the engine compartment = bad

Weekend update...no fires.
Good spark from coil to distributer and the power valve is now verified to be good. Changed out spark plugs...MSD does not like platinums. Ran a little better but noticed #4 not firing consistently. Ordered new cap, rotor and wires for next weekend. I guess they were due after 6 years plus...getting the super conductors.
I'll chase it down sooner or later.

Kind of embarassing...all it needed was a tune up! Cap, rotor and wires did the trick...actually used older plugs. What tricked me I think was that the symptoms appeared during a casual drive and progressively got worse as I chased down other more complicated probable causes. Goes to show you/me...KISS!

Well the big clue was the huge spark that came out of the coil and poor spark to the plugs.
At least all the other stuff is good to go for a while.
This is what happens when your other car and truck are diesel, what spark plugs, etc....
