There's not a joint between the column and the gearbox. The rag joint didn't come along until mid 1967. Your car has a full length steering shaft, and the column fits over it.

You have to unbolt it at the floorboard, and again below the instrument panel. Unhook the wiring to the turn signal. Take the steering wheel off and remove all the plastic spacers, bearings, etc. It then slips up off the steering shaft.

That just about covers the removal except there is a grommet at the the floor boards that you need to loosen up, the column is not 'fixed' to the floor board. While you are at it, get a new grommet, new 'doughnut' for the bottom, new bearing at the top and a new sleeve. Check the horn wiper brushes under the horn ring. If worn, replace the turn signal switch wiring. In effect, rebuild the entire column.Do everything once, not twice.
