motor help
im thinking of starting my mustang project with the motor and trans. this is the motor it has now, not being good with motors im not sure if it can be hopped up or if i should just replace it altogether. my car is currently a auto, but the tag on the door tells me it was a 3sp factory. i would like to put a manual back in it. any ideas or tips for a rookie.

thats the inline 6 you can make it faster theres some links in the faq but the parts cost more then a v8. but to put a v8 in youll have to change out the rear end front spindles hubs springs front and back and brakes
Assuming that all structural issues are addressed, that is there is no obvious frame issues, You need to get a realistic short and long-term budget for yourself. This budget should reflect whether this will be your daily driver, or just a weekend car. You should also concern yourself with safety issues.
Before building anything take the pulse of your car. Get a compression tester, and a good oil pressure gauge and determine whether you NEED to rebuild your engine right away. Check the brakes and the steering, balljoints, and a arms check all the rubber bits. Are they all ok, or do these need to be replaced. How is your radiator?
If they need replacing, this is where your money should go first. Figure about 2k for all the bits just mentioned. If your radiator needs replacing get a decent 3 core radiator, and perhaps a more efficient flex fan.
Once all this is done, you will have a safe ride, and a fairly reliable ride. Doing the motor, transmission and rear end swap is a lot of money, and can be done in stages. Rearend, and front spindles, with new tires, and upgrade brakes. Building engine, new front coils, then transmission replacement. Plus all the gremlins along the way.
Welcome to the land of empty pockets!!!

Here is an article you might want to read just to get some direction of where you want to go with that car.
