Yo!

hows everyone?.......I just got my hands on a 66 mustang 289 one owner all original......and its in pretty good shape!

however, it wont start. I hooked up the jumper cables to give it a jump.....turned the key and all I got was a kinda winding sound...that sounded like it was comming from the starter engine.

The battery is in good shape, I changed out the solinoid and its still making the same "wiiiiiiieeen" when I try and start it. Nothing in the engine is moving when this is happening, so I think it may be my starter.

anyone have any good opionions as to what may be wrong, before I go buy a new starter, if I dont have to.

Thanks

Don

Make sure you check to make sure there are no broken or missing teeth on the flywheel.

Take your starter to a starter shop! Let them test it for you.

Turned out it was the starter.....it wasnt engageing the flywheel!

I took it off, took it apart.....then realized that maybee, just maybee it was due to the fact that the bottom bolt holding the starter on the car was finger loose..............and that maybe the starter was fine, just not fully installed.

well that was it, put it back together, installed it...tight this time and it fired right up.........

now i have smoke comming in my vents when i turn on my heat

hate to tell you this but now you've got a leaking heater core and that smoke is antifreeze which will really f**k up your visibility through the windshield. temp quick fix is to bypass the heater core with the heater hoses until you get the time to pull it out and get a new one. just connect the two hoses to each other after taking them loose from the heater.
