rear disc conversion

Default rear disc conversion

looking to do a rear disc set up on my 68. any cost effective options out there? i really don't wanna drop $800 for it if i can help it.

Look for 95+ year explorer. Check craigs list for people parting them out. You can usually find the whole rear end for under $200. Those disk brakes will bolt right onto a 9", not sure about the 8" but I'm sure they are the same since all the brake shoes and parts will interchange.

Mine ended up around $550 to do with all new parts. Probably could have done it cheaper if I'd worked harder at finding used parts.

Will i need any brackets or have to make any modifications to anything? if so, what else is needed?

go pirate a bubble police car crown vic rear brakes they are vented(non police are solid) they are a direct bolt on with a .130 shim i believe it is inserted in between the disc backing plate and axle tube

Since I replied to you the first time I found a wrecked 96 Explorer on Craigslist. He wanted $250 for the whole thing. I offered him $100 if I came over and pulled them off. He agreed and now I have a set of rear disks.
