Default One Step Forward, Two Steps Back....

Well another fluid change has solved the tranny slipping problems I was having. All of a sudden my rear turn signals and horns started working (the front turn signal wires are cut for some reason and the horn button is under the dash). The car now runs great and goes like hell.

but....

Now my car is leaking oil. It is leaking where the engine and tranny mate and I'm thinking rear main seal, which means I get to drop the pan again, or the seal on the end of the crank going into the tranny. Any thoughts....

No, you get to pull the tranny, drop the oil pan, move the crank forward and replace the rear main seal. Fun, huh?

man that sucks.....

How do I move the crank forward?

I think I'll go ahead and make sure the oil pan in on correctly ( I found some loose bolts last night), but if it still leaks I guess it's time for fun.

Yes. You may as well pull the crank and have it machined and put in new bearings while you are in there.

If thats the case I guess its time to pull the engine and tranny, clean up the engine bay, and build up that motor to the 331 or 347...

That's what I'd do.

I'm finally able to drive the thing and then it decides to spring a leak. I guess I'll go ahead and pull the pan off tonight.

Soaring, you convinced me for safety reasons to use the crossmember as the jack stand location. If I'm going to remove the crossmember for easy pan access, where should I jack the car? Should I drive it up on some ramps?
