Default 289 hp numbers

Hi I know that these will all be estimates but I would greatly apreciate any honest answers!! I was wondering what type of horsepower numbers I might be making with this motor in my mustang. I have a 289 it is bored 30 over, mild cam, edelbrock intake manifold, carter 625cfm carb and long tube headers with 2.5 flowmaster exhaust all the way back. Thanks for your time!! -John

I had a '71 Torino with a two barrel carbed 289 that was factory rated at 190 HP if memory serves me correctly. A lot depends on the cam you installed and the compression ratio, etc. but I would think you might be at 250 at the flywheel.

Just to clarify.

Our 65 coupe with a 289, mild cam, performer intake and some mild head work makes 178 RWHP on a chassis dyno through a toploader and an 8 inch, runs on 87 octane.

The 289 Hi-po engines had 271 HP....so I would say somewhere in that ballpark.

But those are quick horses, not slow power horses.

Not quite sure what you are trying to say here??

Quick horses vs power horses??

What 2 motors are we comparing?

The 289 4v vs the 289 HIPO?

Can you quantify what you mean by the difference between slow power horses and quick horses?

Not being a smart ****, I just don't understand.

Let me venture a guess on this new theory;
Smaller horses have shorter legs, so they move faster and are therefore quicker...
