Default Performance upgrade....

I've been wanting to do something to my car to wake it up for a while now, so I'm gonna do it over christmas while I have time. Right now I have a stock 289 that was rebuit like 6000 miles ago. Only things added are performer intake, holley 600 vac. sec. carb, and long tube headers. I have a stock, rebuilt c-4, and in the rear is a MAE Racing center section with limited slip/locker (not sure) and 3.55s. I think I want to get heads or head work, with a cam. I want to keep my same carb, exhuast, and intake, as well as find a cam that will work well with my rear gears, and hopefully not require a ridiculous converter.

First, and most important, what cam?

Now, matching with the cam, what heads? It would be nice to get assembled heads for less than $1,000 or even just get my current heads ported, but whatever....

Last, anything else that needs to go with this combo to make it optimal and matching for performance. Torque converter?

I'm on a budget and I know there are always lots of little costs that add up, so keep in mind this is a weekend street car. I just want everything to match to get the best performance....so thats it, floor is open, what do you think?

I would go with a set of aluminum heads...you can find really good used set of maybe AFR 165 or 185..as it will take off about 45-50 pound on the front and only be a few more $100 over some head work....I would need alot more info on car to make a REAL reccomendation on cam

call the tech line at Comp Cams and tell them what you are trying to do and they can recommend a good cam for your Stang that will work with what you have or what you are going to get but you have to tell them that too.
