ORIGINAL: Aussie66Fastback

Hi guys,
I sent a list of bits and pieces to MU for an international shipping quote.
The largest part was a new grill $94
There is a hipo aircleaner kit, trunk weather strip and a few other bits and pieces. Total cost $170.

UPS shipping $150[:'(][:'(][:'(]

bearing in mind our dollar buys about $0.80 of one of yours and I get taxed an extra 10% on top locally for both parts and shipping...the whole deal ends up being $440 by time i see it. The only advantage of UPS is I will see the parts in 5 days.

If anyone knows the US parcel system well enough to suggest a cheaper alternative, I could really use some help.

Thanks
Ben

But for a 40 pound package it goes up just like the price you paid through UPS:

The should not charge you local taxes as the items are clearly for export Ok it save u only a few doller but still i would take them up on it. I hate the taxes when my stuff get to the netherlands as they charge me 15 euros admin plus the taxes[:@][:@][:@].

yeah i mean whenever i sell things on ebay or whatever i ship through USPS because its the same times usually or not far off from UPS and FEDEX and its usually a fraction of the cost....plus the post office is just closer to my house which is a good thing....some things are too big for the post office though which is when you gotta go to fedex or ups....like fishing rods or big car parts like door shells or trunk lids or whatever....

thanks all
looks to me like USPS is the best option
I emailed MU for the dimensions...if the grill packaged is over 42" I am in trouble! If not, $87 compared to $150 sounds pretty good to me. The flat rate box is $37, but I'm guessing the grill wont fit in one of those!

Will let you know what I find out
cheers
Ben

Ben,

The grille from NPD for my '65 came in a box that is 43"x9.5"x2". FWIW, I've found UPS to be the most expensive ground shipper in the US, with USPS being cheaper than FedEx ground. As for international, it looks like USPS was very competitive for international shipments, with an option for air which will get it to Oz pretty quickly.

As for the duty they put on them, is there any workaround? What if they were "birthday gifts" sent from one of your "cousins" in the States?

tell them to cut the grill in half and just weld it back up when you get it....NOT....
