Clutch Problem!

Default Clutch Problem!

I Need Help. i own a 66 mustang with a 302 motor with a t-5 trans. i was wonderin what would cause the car to chatter off first gear only?? any help would be great. and i have a centerforce stage 1 clutch with a stock flywheel. thanx and the clutch and flywheel has like at the most 35,000 miles on it. just started 2 do it like a month ago. and it wont do it taking off second gear. And Any Help would be great.

worn clutch plate, humidity, driver style, mechanical clutch mechanism, out of round clutch plate, warped flywheel, dirt or oil on the plate, worn splines on the pressure plate.

no real way to be sure without pulling it to bits.

The pressure plate springs have taken a dump. It can be rebuilt.

There's a few things you can do first without pulling it apart. Check the motor mounts, trans mount and make sure the clutch linkage, ie, equalizer bar, is in good shape with no slop.

Been slipping the clutch? Launching VERY hard? Cause it sure sounds like a glazed clutch disc.....which means you willl need to replace clutch, p/p and resurface if not replace the flywheel. I speak from a lot of experience glazing clutches back in the day with my BOSS 302.
