Default transmission issues

Hey guys,

At high speed occassionally my automatic will drop down to second gear from drive. It is pretty scary at 70 miles an hour. I was wondering whether anyone has an idea about why, and what the fix might be?

cheers

I drove a 1990 pick up for a while and the truck would do exactly what you are describing and if it is like mine it becomes worse with fewer amounts of time in between. i ended having to take my truck and get the transmission rebuilt and it worked fine after that. it is caused from wear and tear or from nuetral drops.

Try tightening the bands and see if that helps. That how-to is in the FAQ under transmissions.

You could always convert to a 5-speed and get rid of the auto. I am kinda biased since I work with these conversion all the time, but there is nothing like shiftin' it yourself.[8D]

it might have something to do with the vaccum lines from the carb or the carb itself.
