Default Ford 9"

How do I know if I have a Ford 9" rear end? Are there any characteristics, markings or anything else I should look for? I have a 1965 GT coupe, it originally had an "A" code 289, and a 4-speed manual transmission. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That is one of the most often asked questions on here. Here is a butt load of information that has been amassed over the last few years.
IX. DIFFERENTIAL AND AXLE:

here is a very simple way to check. look at the pumpkin where the bolts are. if you can fit a socket straight onto the bolts than you have an 8in. but if you cant fit the socket straight on because the bolts are a little overshadowed by the cover, than its a 9in, duno if i made that really clear, but i think u guys know what i mean

Thanks, guys you really helped, I'm pretty sure that it's not the stockrear endconsidering that the previous owner had swapped out the old 289 (got blown up) for a 302, also I remember seeing that hump that has been talked about so much. I'm going to check again tonight, and I'm crossing my fingers that it's a 9".

They don't brake when you race a Prowler out of a stoplight. .... not that I speak from personal experience or anything...
