'67 power steering in a '65
Need some advice. A friend has a COMPLETE powersteering set up for a '67 coupe that he will let go for $200. Can this set up be adapted into a '65 coupe with a 302? Looks like there is more than enough room under the hood, I'm just concerned about the mounting and pick-up points. This system also comes with a good steering box and steering column that are in good shape.I know there will be some alignment issues but thats not a big deal right now. Anyway, someone please give me a hand with this. Please.
You would have to look at it really carefully as 67 was a transition year for suspension and steering. If I were you, I would down load the NPD catalogue (npdlink.com) then carefully compare part numbers between his 67 and your 65. If the part numbers are not exactly the same then the swap would be an adventure. I also paid $200 for a used PS set-up but after getting it professionally rebuilt and getting the misc parts, like hoses, the swap from MS to PS cost close to $900.
Yes, anything can be made to fit to any year or motor, it just depends on how much work you want to do. I have a 1967 stang with a 1987 331 stroker with 67 power steering. That was a pain in the *** to rig.
I have a 67 'rag' joint steering gear and column in my 65. you will need to buy a 65/66 center link with p/s tie-rod ends and sleeves. Use the pitman and idler arm for a 65/66 p/s and you're good to go.
