Default Quick question about distributor vacuum advance

I'm installing an Edelbrock carb, and it says to figure out if the vacuum going to the distributor is timed vacuum or full vacuum. Which is it?

Thanks

I think it is timed vacuum as it advances the timing so there should be no vacuum at idle. So full vacuum would make little sense imo.

+1 with Paddy. It's timed. Full vacuum would be a break booster hose or tranny vacuum line.

Aka ported vacuum and manifold vacuum. You want ported so theres no advance @ idle.

Yeah, the vacuum line hooks into the carb.

Soaring, there are both timed and manifold vacuum ports on an Edelbrock carb. Maybe you should stick to answering questions about stock stuff.

Epic2112, you want the port on the front left of the carb. It is above the throttle plate and therefore only creates vacuum when the throttle plate is open.

Check out Edelbrock's website, there are excellent videos that you can download:

Also check out this article about tuning an Edelbrock:

And here is a picture for you:
(this was during installation, I have since removed the plug on the timed vacuum port and connected my distributor advance to that port)

Good luck!

there should be instructions that come with the carb. I just installed a new edelbrock carb, im pretty sure you just unplug the vacum line that runs from the dizzy to the carb, and if the car runs normal you plug it in the recommended port on the carb.

No "b*tch slap" intended.

It's well known that Soaring doesn't use, or even like, Edelbrock carburetors, so it was just my opinion that if someone doesn't know about the equipment, it doesn't make sense to offer help with it.
