I have a slow leak in my transmission. It appears to be coming from around the bolt that attaches the kickdown linkage to the transmission. Before I tear into it I was hoping there is someone that can tell me what I might find and possible problems/fixes in this area.

When I manually operate the kickdown I can see that there is fluid seeping from around the bolt. In the picture the leak appears on the silver notched washer looking thing between the nut and the kickdown lever. Help!

 

I have a 78 TA with a TH400 trannyandI had a similar problem to you, I replaced the shaft seal on the linkage, but it does not have a Kick down like a c4, my Mustang 73, has a C4 and it was leaking from the tranny pan gasket and then everywhere, I later found I over filled it, my C4 is real sensitive to that, just a little too much and it leaks everywhereand I had the same leak as you at that time, but it could be that seal also on that shaft, Advance auto or Napa stores should have that seal, try Napa.com, or Advanceautoparts.com, they are amazingly fast in shipping, unless there is a store near you im in PA here, then they are next day fast on even odd parts I have found.

 

It's a simple seal. You can replace it, although in the car it would prove to be difficult.
A shop manual should show the proceedure.

 

Thanks for replies. It does look like it would be difficult in the car. I don't have any experience in this area and I didn't want to start tearing into a situation without a little planning. I think I will just live with it until I have a day to devote to it. It might not take long, but if it does I don't want to quit in the middle.
