Default help with '73 dash and cluster removal

I need to remove the instrument cluster from my base model '73 but when i went to take off the front pannel, i couldnt get it past the steering column or under the dash. do i need to remove the entire dash to get in there? and if so, whats the easiest way to go about it?

I suggest you get the 1973 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (NPD $16).

remove the plastic trim from around the column, remove the screws to the cover of the sluster and pull it out then remove the screws holding the cluster in place pull it out slightly and now you have to relase the speedo cable from the speedometer do this then the cluster will come out a light bit more and you can release the wiring from the printed circuit board on the rear of the cluster

I usually just take the steering wheel off.

You will need to drop the steering column. First remove the plastic collar and then the four nuts/bolts that hold the steering column in place. This will provide enoughclearance to remove the panel.
