Blah! Blah! Blah! Same Old...
I got my 1965 back in the 1990s. At the time, I already had a fox body (which was thecurrent mustangat the time). Putting them side by side it was clear that that 1965 wouldn't ever drive/handle like the fox without ruining it. Now I've got a 2005 parked next to my 1965...and I sure as heck don't expect the 1965 to drive/handle like that 2005...and if I'd butchered it in the 90s when I first got it then it'd once again be out of date today. So then I'd need to butcher it further to get it up to date again. And then in another 15yrs I'll do it again and again. And after all that, it's hardly a classic any more anyway.
Don't get me wrong, changes here and there for safety reasons and such make a lot of sense to me, but most of that falls into the "same old stuff Ford guys have been doing forever". But when it comes that that "new" stuff you're talking about, they may as well buy a new mustang and put 1960s sheetmetal on it...it'd be easier than doing it the other way around.
IMO if you want a modern car go buy one. There's lots to choose from.Meanwhile, if you want a classic then get that. In my case I bought both. And considering how much time/money some guys pump into their restomods, I'd guess my 2 cars together still cost less than what a lot of guys spend basterdizing 1 classic.

You can get an old car to handle VERY well using even the stock a-arms. Lower then 1 to 1.5", put a wedge spacer under the upper ball joint and put a decent set of springs/shocks on it and a good sway bar. Add the typical and low cost Monte Carlo bar and export brace and there you have it, a light weight car with good handling for low cost. And that's not even getting into tubular a-arms with spherical bearings etc. It certainly won't FEEL like a new car does, but I can garuntee you it WILL handle as well as a new car, especially when you factor in the light weight of an old Mustang. Just align it properly and maintain it like you should, there's no reason you can't get an old 60's 'Stang to handle better than a new one for low cost.
One word- Eleanor. There's plenty of restomod Mustang guys. Gone in 60 Seconds made sure of plenty of aftermarket new-school parts. Heck, you can even buy a complete 67/68 Fastback body.
Any Chev, Mopar, Challenger that is remotely unique is generally kept reasonably close to what it strarted life as because they are more valuable that way.
I'd also hazard a guess that there are a lot more repro/ original parts available to keep a stang classic and its cheaper to do so than for Mopar etc.
IMO, run of the mill models are what's being modernised/ modded etc and that applies to Mustangs as well.
me, it comes down to how many $$$ are available for the upgrades. I like the sleeper idea - Old stang outside, new mechanicals underneath. Not a fan of all the visible modernisation (new wheels on old cars dont always look right to me) and if i wanted all that i'd buy a newer car.

lets see, big disc brakes, new suspension, aftermarket radio, console, sometimes garmin GOS unit mounted at bottom of window, new tires rims, what else was there? modded engine. uhh, what more modern thigns could you want?
I could not agree with you less. You should scan through the F and Q portion of this site. You will see article after article of upgrades and updates. Everything from brakes to suspension on up to lighting and steering. Just spend a little time searching and you will probable see that the opinion of stock verses restomod is close to 50/50.
