Mind-Boggling Overheating Issues - $900 Later...
If your temp sending unit is at the top of your intake mainifold at the back,it is probably just an airlock at that point.loosen it and while engine is running see if bubbles come out instead of straight coolant.Almost like bleeding brake systems.This area is the highest point of the cooling system and can be extremely hard to get airlocks out of.Its the steam thats spiking the temp gauge.

I've often wondered if this was the case. My temp sender is located in the front of the engine block below the thermostat housing. I was contemplating putting it in the water pump but wasn't sure if that would give accurate readings...
