The difference between 302 and 302 HO is firing order. Standard 302 is 15426378 and HO is 13726548, also on the production engines the HO's used a 34oz damper and a 50oz flywheel balance, and the standard 302 was 28 and 28, though you can run a 28oz balance and an HO firing order but you MUST get the engine balanced, since it's the crank balancing that determines which external balance is needed. HO is generally considered better, Ford supposedly changed it to revise main bearing loads and increase engine longevity.
