Go buy yourself a stock 87-92 Mustang short block from the rebuilder of your choice, and add a set of AFR 165 heads. KEEP THE STOCK CAM. Should net you an easy 375 horse. Car Craft got 405 hp with some tuning.

oh come on now, ya gotta step up at least a *little* with the cam
351w with flat tops, a mild cam, and some gt-40 heads and you'd have a VERY reliable motor making plenty of horsepower and gobs of torque

You can get that out of a very streetable 302 if you build it right. The engine I just plopped in yesterday is going to have at least that, and at less than 6k rpm with decent mileage. What do you want to do with the car? That determines what route you go

I have a 5.0 in my car now and with some mods you can easily get some serious horsepower out of it.

it depends on what you want and your budget i rather build my own or pay someone to this way its the way i want it and i know whats all in it and if i built it if it blows i can only blame me
I'll be differenent and say buy a crate motor, of course since i work for a crate engine builder I guess I'm a little bias. have I look at the website you won't find a better built engine for the money. Building an engine yourself is good but having a warranty on the engine is better.http://tandlengines.com/
To answer the question.I dont currently have any plans for a trip to the strip but maybe mainly however street just stop light to stop light
. Would it be worth it build up mine its for the 87-92 5.0 Whats the diff btwn the H.O and the standard cuz i read that with the 5.0 H.O a pair of heads they mentioned, diff rocker arm ratio, got that 405 so since mines a standar could i add a nice cam and get those kinda results?

Short of buying a Ford Racing motor 302, I like Decurion's idea of building off of a 5.0L short block. In addition to the roller cam, it will have a one-piece rear main seal.
