Default 1968 gas cap

Hey guys, first post! I have a question, if I tighten the gas cap down all the way for my 68 mustang it's crooked a bit, to have it straight I would have to leave it slightly loose. Has anyone else had problems with this? Is there a way to fix it? Would buying a new gas cap fix it? Thanks!

Not sure about this, but would a thicker gasket/seal help?

I put a second cork gasket between the filler pipe and the body on my cars, mostly for the additional clearance but it helps put the cap back on as well.

Nice, thanks, I'll give that a try and see if it helps!

I used to have a similar problem on my 67. I cured it by putting a pop-open gas cap on. Much cooler.

Yeah, it just makes sense that if the gasket is thicker, the cap will bottom out sooner bringing it back to sitting up straight.

Actually no - i would recomendthe $0.60 variety from National Parts Depot (2007 pg91 p/n 9076-1). The one from Mustangs Plus is the high tech, high speed, restomod, high price for the discriminating buyer same thing.
