Gas Cap
I have lived with high gas prices and never had my tank tampered. With my first car I had a manufacture locking gas cap andI lived in a rough area that car broken into around 10 times in 3 months (I moved then)and then most car have a lock on the door activated by the central locking. I suppose as the stang is rare on the street for long that doesn't give thieves a look in. Even whenI lived in London never heard of it happening again I lived in a rough area (highest murder rate in the UK about 25 a year so like a small Midwest town in the US). I just wonder what is the mentality difference in the people in the US and UK the only thing i can put it down to is people in the rough areas are less likely to own a car and normally if people do steal petrol it is drive off station forecourts.

Isn't it legal to shoot trespassers in texas?
Thankfully I don't have to worry about gas thieves....yet...

The fact that the law allows something in no way indicates that it is also the right thing to do. I realize that what I'm about to say is a judgement call, and that it is a far cry from the majority opinion where I live, but your life is worth more than my gasoline, and it makes no difference to me who's life we're talking about. It would never even cross my mind to start shooting at someone over some gasoline. But, that's just my opinion. One that I advocate at every opportunity, but still a judgement call. Life has become far too cheap in recent times.
High prices for gas bring out the worst in people. The last big price increase, the one with the long lines, had all kinds of reports on theft of gas, and ironically, in some of the above average income apartment areas.

like Sh*t on my car. For starters it didn't even look like it was ment for my car even though it says it fits all 65-70 mustangs and second, that locking crap is a waste because not only does it NOT look good on the car, it's also a waste because once it's on a 5yr old can pull it right off making that locking cap worthless. Oh! and I failed to mention that those A$$ holes gave me such a hard time when I wanted to return it!
Sorry I kept rambling on there guys, I just remembered how frustrating that experience was.. here's a link below to what I was talking about

Later model Jeeps have anti-rollover valves which essentially makes them "siphon proof". Like most, if not all late model cars, they also have plastic fuel tanks which are easily punctured if somebody really wants your gas. I have an all steel, completely surronding skidplate on my tank, but I've heard of it happening to others. Late model pastic tanks sure aren't cheap like the aftermarket steel Mustang tanks.

All a thief would have to do is cut the rubber hose that connects the sending unit to the hard line. No need to siphon or take the cap off.

I lived on Terceria island which is a part of the Azores and islands which belong to Portugal. As with any European country, gas prices are ridiculous and gas is a very desireable comodity. I had my truck robbed of gas about 4 times before I got fed up with it. A locking gas cap will do you no good.. Those cheap bastards can be taken off in a New York minute. What you need is an alarm system. I ordered an alarm system from Whitney and installed it. If the gas cap is taken off the entire vehicle explodes.
