Default Eaton or Ford

On a 64 1/2 Mustang, how do I tell if I have the Eaton or Ford power steering pump? I couldnt find any labels or stampings.

Hello. On the Eaton pumps the fluid reservoir is seperate from the pump itself, and has a 'wagon wheel' style pulley with spokes. The reservoir is supposed to be hanging on the inner fender near where the washer bag goes. The Ford pumps are a self-contained unit with the pump and the reservoir all together like a modern power steering pump.Hopr that helps.

The only Eaton pump that has its reservoir attached to the fender was when the car was equippedwith air conditioning, otherwise it was part of the pump.

Hi again.Yup. On the non A/C cars the reservoir is bolted to the top of the pump instead of the inner fender, but it is still a distinctly seperate piece, unlike the Ford units, in which the pump is contained within the reservoir itself.
