Default clearance issue

Well I seem to be having an issue with my rear suspension. I have 17" wheels on my Stang with low profile tires and as of late they have been hitting the fenders. I was thinking of perhaps installing bumpers or firming up the suspension or maybe putting new leafs or a lift kit. I think the simple solution would be to find shocks that stop at a certain point but i have not run across anything of the sort. Any ideas let me know thanks.....

I forgot to mention it is the rear that has the problem, that would probably help knowing that, but I guess leaf springs gave it away.

Stiffer leaf springs perhaps or have the body flared for clearance.

Yeah, remember that shocks do not support the weight of the car. That's the job of the springs. Have you ever replaced the original leaf springs? If not, then that is your answer. I'll drive over to your house to help with that front bolt from hell. Las Cruces is only about a 12 hour drive away.

My vote goes to stiffer leaf springs they can really be a PITA to remove if they're still the originals and by now should be in need of replacing. Take a good look at them and if they look over 30 years old replace them! It's cake to install new ones and not that expensive but removing the old ones can really be awefull! I'm putting new ones on tongiht... the old ones were awefull to take off. Torched them more than anything else LOL be carefull around gas lines though.

LOL just saw soarings post... the front one is incredibly hard..... with the rear axle make sure you use that jack a LOT... no point in lifting all that.

Sounds good to me especailly if it is a bolt from hell .. Most people run from a task like that.. If it gets too rough we have a habit of just cutting bolts out [sm=vader.gif].... but it does get the job done.. Thank you

I'll bet that rubber bushing burning was a nice scent to your nose. I used a sawzall, and others have used air wheels to get that friggin front bolt out. The one on the driver's side on mine just slipped right out, but the passenger side had to be cut out. Hard and nasty work isn't it?

What is your 9" swapped from? It is hard to tell from your sig picture, but it looks like you either need your rear axle narrowed or wheels with different backspacing. Do your front tires hit?

Well I actually bought the nine inch from Currie for my year of mustang,. So I thought it should be exactely or close to the size of the stock setup. They only touch on the top of the fender. the wheels do stick out but only slightly the tire is 8" wide..

The front drivers side does rub slightly on the front but I am gonna modify it to take care of the problem. it is very minor.
