Default Header clearance debacle.

I recently purchased a quick steer kit, rear springs and tri-ys from a shelby restoration/racing outfit.
I wanted to buy American and stupidly assumed I'd be getting really good pieces considering the price I paid. The steering kit and springs were good quality and fit well.
When I opened the box the headers were in I was suprised and dismayed to see Patriot ceramics. But they appeared to be decently made so I decided to install them. I paid $400 for them.

The passenger's side went in with a little tap here and there to clear the tower. The driver's side will not fit. Not even close. Plently of clearance at the tower, the problem's the clutch linkage.
I went and bought a Hipo Z bar which made the problem even worse. The lower end of the Z bar hits the tubes. The clutch pedal is all the way down to the floor just to get the adjusting rod in.
When the headers are on the car the driver's side collector hangs lower and the whole thing is shorter than the passenger's side. Shouldn't they be even at the point where the exhaust bolts on?
Do I have a bad header or bad linkage geometry?
I am at my wits end. I might just eat the damn things and buy JBAs. But if it's a car problem then I'll be really pissed.

If someone could post a few pictures showing how the Zbar and tri-ys are supposed to interact I would be most grateful.
