Default Brake light

The brake light on my dash will not go out. I noticed last weekend while I was running a new speedometer cable that the electrical lead was unplugged. When I plugged it back in the light comes on and will not go off. The brakes feel fine. What caused this light to come on? What is it checking? The car has manual drum brakes.

It's the switch, either installed incorrectly or jamed closed, eg on all the time. If jammed closed, get a new one.
Bleed the brakes, rears then the fronts, checking the light each time.

Ifyou brakesworks fine I would just unplug it. You will know if you have brake failure and may not need the light to tell you. But I agree with Jim, it sounds like it might be the switch.
