E-Cam for a carbed S/C 65?
O.k.
So there are a lot of Cam posts out there, most of the guys working with the alphbet cams have EFI. I am running a 1969 302 in my 1965 mustang, GT40-p heads and the stock 1988 5.0 roller cam. The car runs smooth, gets about 18 mpg, and breaks the 235-45-r17 z compound tires loose from the line.
Now I am getting ready to bolt on my B&M 177, and Holley 670. Well I want to do the cam as well. I am running 1.6 full roller rockers with guide plates and Comp cams spring (good up to .550 lift).
Will the E303 cam work well with this carb setup...I am asking because I can pickup a new E cam for aroun $100, and use my current springs and have no clearance problems. I go down to Ron's Performance and every roller cam they list for S/C apps look to be around .530 lift and above, and in upwards of $300 (for cam only). I have NO emissions, no EFI, yes I am running PCV. I have a C-4 with stock gears, Kevlar bands, 2200 rpm stall, and 3.27 gears.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

a 650 double-pumper on a street driven 302!!! Runs like scalded spit, from off idle to 5800 rpm. I think you will like it.
yeah that threw me off but he said he has a stock roller cam in there already so im guessing its had the holes drilled and tapped in the lifter valley or he has retrofit lifters. the E cam will work just fine, but there are SO much better cams out there (anything dual pattern) which will make more power - even if their specs are close to the E. of course, if you have a great deal lined up then its worth grabbing
Buy the right cam for your app. Just to save your self $150 and not get the full potential out of your motor is in my opinion crazy. The E cam was engineered as a duel pattern N/A EFI cam, good for an auto setup, does work great on a stick. Go on a cam site and plug your numbers in and get the right one.
Basically any cam will work on a carb'd car. Fords alphabet cams are old tech though. Get something newer, good OTS grind from a reputable manufacturer for your setup, some people will argue custom cam as well, which if you have the money may be worth it. I'm running Crane's Powermax 2031(for 1.7rr), which is an EFI cam and it runs nice, and Comp makes good grinds as well(also Isky, Lunati etc etc). You REALLY should upgrade your springs though, cuz then you won't be limited as to cam choice, and it gives you a nice margin of safety. If you run a .520 lift cam on worn springs for a .550 lift, depending on how agressive the lobe is you may float, and that will kill a roller engine(maybe not right away at least)
