long tubes are desinged for full noise full revs to get the most out of them
for a street car, sell them to someone who doesnt know better and get some tri-y style headers. they'll work better, fit better and will improve fuel consumption (when your not ripping in to it)

thats just my opinion of course, but check out some header manufacturers sites on differences between long tube (tuned length) and tri's.

eg... http://www.pacemaker.com.au/faq.html#design

I think I looked into this, and don't recall seeing any Try-Y style headers for anything bigger than a 302. Anyone else seen Tri-Y for a 351?

I have long tube headers on my 1970 Mach 1.I do not have any clearance issues but I have a C4. I do not know who makes them however; there is not much of a selection for the Cleveland. My bet is they are hookers. The headers were on it when I bought it and there are no notable modifications to them. I have heard there is a difference between headers made for a manual trans and an automatic. Do you have the right ones? Have you posted this question on the Cleveland forum (351cleveland.net)?
