headers wont fit
hi guys
the new AFR SBF race series heads are now bolted onto the 408W and i am about 10 days off dropping it back in the car (my GT not my stang hahahaha tricked ya)
anyway, I bought some new headers as the old ones were looking worse for wear and the ports were pretty small. the new headers have rectangular ports, vertical like most W heads and are 1 5/8 at the primary, going to 2 then 2.5 i think.
Problem is the ports on the heads are about 1 5/8 SQUARE.
Now i am not sure if i should get custom headers made (= $1200 - $1400 here) or make an adapter and suffer the fact that the header is slightly smaller than the port.
Any opinions?

You have a GT? Post pics!
Edit: Sorry, that was no where near what you were asking, lol! I'd cut those headers out to where they do fit, or just weld on a new head-side flange ( I don't know what to call it) if necessary.

yeh, she's a little worse for wear at the moment.
I bought it witha "new" engine. Turns out the guy fitted this huge winged sump with no baffles. I did 10 very gentle "getting to know you" laps at our local track before i spuna bearing. That was over 2 years ago.
Currently the gearbox is reconditioned and ready, the engine will be finished this week and the interior and wiring is in total pieces. I have remounted the race seat, bought a wild twin thermo alum radiator, an accumulator, a million other bits and pieces. It should be startup in about a month and, with 600hp, I cant wait

hahhahaha
In Australia, the only GT is a Ford. Made from 1967 to 1974 with the 1971 Phase III GTHO the one to have - bit like shelby's and boss's.
Actually mine is not a genuine GT but it will look like one and outperform the real thing once its finished.
they made less than 300 of the factory '71 GT HO's as road cars for racing homologation and the last one sold made $683,000. There are a couple of factory specialsworth over $2.5m. and anything with competition history worth big dollars too.The values are skyrocketing. Even replicas made from base 6 cyl taxis are pulling mid 50k mark
here's one at my local track - crap footage but you'll get the idea

no
just Australia
but exported to South Africa and New Zealand as well
they were a local 4 door family car
67 had straight mustang driveline 289, 4 spd complete with the reverse lockout. 68 had a 302 with auto optional and a few more color options (all the 67's except a handful of specials were gt gold). 69 had 351W, 70 and 71 had 4v 351 clevelands. The 71 was the only one with a shaker scoop. Then we had the same muscle car scare in 72 and everything from then on was detuned.
GM did pretty much the same thing with 327's and 350's in a 2 door car before going back to a much smaller car with a triple carb 6. Chrysler ran a local 2 door "Charger" with triple carbed inline 6 that was as fast over the 1/4 as the 351 GTHO.
All the cars that had limited production runs for race homologation are now worth well over $100k - even rustbuckets!.
Atom, i'll post some more pics as I get closer.

aussies have all the good cars, like FPVs and such. im jealous!! but back on topic, id get some custom ones made and get a refund on the others, especially for a race motor, no chances IMO. good luck!
